The season is changing again and it’s a good time to take a fresh look at your closet. Here are a few tips to help with that process:
Consider the weather
Each season change is a good opportunity to re-evaluate what you own but spring is a particularly good time because the flexibility in the weather means flexibility in your wardrobe. If you clean your closet each winter or summer you may blindly get rid of something classic, just because it doesn’t fit the season. Before you put those winter clothes away, really look at what you wore this past winter. Then pull out your summer items and see which pieces you’re not looking forward to wearing again. Get rid of all of them!
Look for adaptability
As you’re in between the winter and summer clothes, look for pieces that transition between seasons well. What are the clothes you wear all year round? Maybe you need to stock up on a few more of those items. Get rid of any items that only look good when worn a certain way or when paired with a certain item. If the stars have to align to get you to wear that outfit—it’s not worth it.
Put the “clean” in “spring clean”
If anything has been sitting in your closet for too long, bring it to Ziker Cleaners. We can help get rid of any lingering smells or stains. A good, professional cleaning and ironing may make an old piece look new again and may keep it that way longer. If you’re feeling like you’re going back and forth on your feelings about a certain item, let a good cleaning help you decide. If it still doesn’t fit right after it’s been dry cleaned or laundered by a professional, dump it.
Whatever you get rid of, find a way to give it a new life. Find a thrift store in need of donations, a neighbor who loves your style, or even an animal shelter that could use some loose fabric. Then let it go, take a deep breath and enjoy a stress-free closet as you move into spring!
