How often should suits be dry cleaned?
If you wear suits on a daily or even weekly basis you’ve probably stood in your closet and thought “How often does this need to be dry cleaned?” Well, we are happy to answer.
Of course how often it needs to be drycleaned depends on several things:
- How often you wear it.
- The weather.
- The construction of the suit.
- How many suits you have.
If you wear your suit daily you may need to have it cleaned sooner than others. If you wear it travelling you may want to bring it to a trusted dry cleaners, Like Zikers, just to have it professionally ironed from time to time. If at any time your suit gets a stain or smell that you are unable to remove gently, a professional cleaner is the best way to go.
A general rule is most suits should be cleaned once per season. That means each suit gets cleaned four times per year. This helps remove any allergens from the previous season and keeps you looking crisp and professional all year round. Of course you may need to throw an extra cleaning in if you get stuck in the rain or snow.
It makes sense that suits that are built a little better could go a little longer in between cleanings. Some suits may also not show stains as much as others. No matter the construction of the suit it’s important to use a cleaner who will return your suit fitting the same way it did when you brought it in and with no shiny or glossy film.
Most men who do wear suits daily have built up a stash of them that allows them to rotate wearing different suits. This is a good practice that will allow your suits to rest in the closet for a few days between each wearing. The more suits you have, the less often you wear them, the less often you clean them.
If your suit is showing any signs of wear or tear, bring it in to Ziker Cleaners. We can help remove any stains, iron it just right and have it ready for you to wear again in no time!
